This manual does cover the topic in detail about how you can Deed your island to your Group. Many residents want to have Group owned land but struggle with the actual process of deeding their land to their own Group, it can be confusing and frustrating to achieve. Before we begin it is worth noting that not everywhere in Second Life you can Deed your land to your own personal Group for the reason that some places do not allow this or keep the land they rent out in their very own Group.
At Count Burks Estates this is possible as you are the ower of your land so you have full control over your virtual property which includes the privilege of having your very own personal Group owned land. Before your deed your land to your Group I will explain you what the advantages include of having a Group owned property, because you might be better to just have your land in your own name and have absolutely no need for Group owned land.
We will commence with a short overview what actually are valid reasons are to have Group owned land, in certain cases you are just better to keep your land in your name because there is no need to make things more complicated as they should be.
The main reason to Deed a property or parcel to a Group is to share land permissions with others. These “others” can be your partner or friend but also an actual group of people, such as members of your Roleplay Group or the community that you share the land with.
These permissions involve:
– Access to the land (land access can be restricted to only Group members for example)
– Control of Media (Group Members can set a Music or Video stream for the land)
– Terraforming (Group Members can have permission to modify the terrain)
– Object Sharing (Certain Objects on the land can be shared with Group Members)
– Build Permissions (Only Group Members can build or Rez on the land)
– Script usage (Script usage and interaction do only work for Group Members)
– Set Home Location (Group Members can also set their Home Location on your land, your partner can set their home)
Another common reason is when commercial activities are involved. For example you have a store with a partner or collaborate with co-workers to do business. Maybe you have a club or venue on your land and need to allow DJs to set a Media stream or have security staff that require land control permissions, or your club host and dancers need certain permissions.
When you are an individual who lives alone at your house on your land or you have a personal store then there is no need for you whatsoever to Deed your land to a Group or have Group owned land. You do not need Group owned land so that your TV would work or to have music. You do not need Group owned land to protect your island or to be able to terraform. Do keep this in mind as it will save you a lot of frustration. Only the reasons mentioned above are valid reasons to have Group owned property.
Deed land to Group using the Singularity Viewer
STEP 1 Right click your land (the ground) and select ABOUT LAND
STEP 2 In the ABOUT LAND window click on the SET button and select the Group that you wish to Deed your land to.
STEP 3 We did now SET the Group as you can see the Born Group is now set as we did select this Group from the list.
STEP 4 Now click the little box that says Allow Deed To Group, you will see the blue Deed button highlighted.
STEP 5 Now click on the DEED button in the ABOUT LAND window.
STEP 6 You are now presented with a window that mentions Land Use Credits. At Count Burks Estates you do not need to have Land Use Credits, we handle all this for you already because you are living on a Private Estate that is managed for you. You can just click OK here.
STEP 7 Congratulations now we see that the land is Group Owned by the Born Group in a correct manner.
You did now complete the Group deeding process. Should you not be able to make it work just IM Count Burks and I will come to assist you to Deed your island to your Group. It is also always possible to undeed your island again if you desire. At Count Burks Estates the initial owner of the land does always remain the owner. There is no need to worry about the fact that you would no longer be in charge of your property. When you purchase your island at Count Burks you are owner, if your island is deeded to a Group or not this does not matter. At all times you remain the owner of your land and you are in charge of your property. This also provides an extra layer of protection that Count Burks Estates offers to its residents.
